FAQ

You have questions, we have answers.

Wedding

The most common questions we get from our couples.

WHAT STYLE OF PHOTOGRAPHY DO YOU SHOOT?

Can I say “magical” here? Haha, just kidding! But that is our goal at the end of the day. To create images that are bursting with life, romance, emotions, beauty, and humor.

We are primarily natural light photographers, loving soft color palettes, or moody lighting, and timeless romantic settings for our portraits in nature or around beautiful architecture. Our photos are processed to emulate a classic film photography look which is subtle in color while retaining a classic look. We love relaxed and casually posed images that have that “magical moment” feel to them.
That is the core of our style but at the same time, we love variety! So if the sky is just right for a sunset silhouette or a room we’re in is really dark with just a sliver of light then we’re going to work it with amazing results. We love to be adaptable in every situation to best serve you and document your day, not just our style.

WHY ARE YOU WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHERS? DO YOU ENJOY YOUR JOB?

Because we LOVE love. No but really, we do absolutely love and enjoy being around a couple on one of the BEST days of their life. It is inspiring and we leave each wedding feeling so satisfied to have been apart of something so amazing. We also personally know how fast the day can fly by and how enjoyable it is to have amazing photographs to help remember it all.

HOW SHOULD I EXPECT TO INTERACT WITH YOU ON MY WEDDING DAY?

We are a mix of editorial, photojournalistic, and fine art portrait photography. Meaning: We love to be a fly on the wall and capture the action naturally happening around us. This especially comes into play while you are getting ready, and during your ceremony and reception. We also know when to step in and tweak a moment (when it is appropriate) to place the bride in that perfect light, or give direction when it is needed, etc. We are always respectful and defer to you in the final say.

We also have scheduled portrait times during the day with the family, wedding party, and bride and groom where we take full charge to pose you in beautiful settings, with perfect light, directing as needed and also allowing for spontaneous and enjoyable (even laughable) moments to happen during those times. Our goal is for the day to flow smoothly and naturally while confidently capturing all the elements that make it beautiful.

WHAT ARE YOUR WEDDING SELECTIONS?

We offer three wedding selections that start at $2500 for half day coverage and vary from there. Contact us for pricing details.

CAN I CUSTOMIZE A PACKAGE ACCORDING TO MY NEEDS?

Yes we are open to customizing something specific for you.

WHY IS WEDDING AND PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY PRICED THE WAY IT IS?

Most people think that wedding photography is an easy way to make a living and have a great time doing it. We will admit, we do have a great time doing it but the work (and I mean it when I say WORK) is certainly not for the faint of heart or those looking to make some easy cash. We carry around at least $15,000 worth of gear to each wedding and often work around a 50 hour week. It can take up to a full week to properly edit a wedding that we shoot. Combine that with the blogging, lifestyle session editing, email answering, website updating, potential client meetings, existing client meetings, schedule planning, business promoting, SEO promoting, and the occasional non profit work, you can see how easy it is to find yourself working a 50 hour week. Add that labor to insurance expenses, self-employment tax, software, advertising fees, albums, repairs, studio expenses, shipping, photography association fees, editorial submission fees, etc. The list goes on. There is also the pressure of an ever-changing technological world that forces you to upgrade your gear constantly to be putting forth a competitive product. Some months many photographers end up making less then minimum wage for the first few years of their career.

I REALLY LOVE YOUR WORK BUT I HAVE BUDGET LIMITATIONS. DO YOU OFFER DISCOUNTS?

Thank you! While our prices our set at a very reasonable industry standard for the quality and level of work we produce, we do understand that some people value a good photographer more then their wallets allow. We never “discount” our current packages as they are but we are not opposed to discussing budget limitations and potentially working out a custom package on a case by case basis. Do you live in an cool city that we’d enjoy visiting? Is your wedding insanely creative and guaranteed to be a hit in our portfolio? Is your wedding date last minute and we still have it open? If you can say yes to one of these questions then you might be that case that we are willing to work with. The best thing to do is to send us an email and ask! We don’t mind a bit.

CAN I GET BLACK AND WHITE IMAGES IN COLOR?

We do not offer the option to convert black and white photos to color. We artfully photograph and select some images specifically for black and white because they look the best in that form. If you do not like black and white then please be sure to let us know that on the front end.

I RECEIVED MY IMAGES AND I REALLY WANT –FILL IN THE BLANK- EDITED OUT OF IT. DO YOU CHARGE FOR THAT?

We edit every image up to our professional standards. If you still need additional editing after receiving your final product we do charge $50 an hour. (for the record- we have never had a bride ask for additional editing.)

DO YOU STILL TAKE FORMAL FAMILY PHOTOS?

Of course! At our wedding we crammed over 50 of our extended family into one photo. We’d be happy to do the same for you.

CAN I GIVE YOU A SPECIFIC SHOT LIST?

We will provide a formal shot checklist for you to fill out and at the bottom is a spot for additional photo requests. We cannot guarantee to get all these shots but will try our absolute best!

WHAT TYPE OF EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?

DO YOU USE FLASH LIGHTING AT THE RECEPTION?

If possible we try to use natural light for most of your reception after dark to achieve that warm and natural glow that our photos are known for. Once the dances start we will turn on our off camera flashes to provide more light if needed. This depends on how well light your reception is.

WHAT TYPE OF RECEPTION LIGHTING DO YOU USE?

Top quality canon Speedlights and occasionally a video light.

DO YOU HAVE BACKUP EQUIPMENT?

Most definitely. We do not leave your wedding day photography up to chance!

DO YOU HAVE A SECOND SHOOTER?

Yes and most days it is my husband, Andrew.

DO YOU HAVE INSURANCE?

Yes. If your venue needs a statement of this please request it two months in advance since it takes time to provide a copy.

HOW WILL YOU AND YOUR ASSISTANTS BE DRESSED?

We like to know how fancy or casual your wedding is and then plan our outfits accordingly so we blend into the crowd. We will always look professional and wedding guest worthy. We would never dream of wearing blue jeans to your wedding!

I KNOW YOU TOOK, LIKE, A MILLION PHOTOS ON OUR WEDDING DAY. CAN WE SEE THE IMAGES THAT DIDN’T MAKE THE CUT?

Fortunately for you, no…you would be really bored and so would we. Rest assured that we give you every photo that isn’t a duplicate, blurry, misfire, or eyes closed/bad face. We do not withhold any photos.

MY DATE GOT CANCELLED/MOVED? CAN I GET MY DEPOSIT BACK?

No, your deposit is non-refundable. Once we book your date we turn away all inquires for that date since it is exclusively reserved for you

HOW FAR IN ADVANCE DO I NEED TO BOOK WITH YOU?

To ensure getting your exact date we recommend booking twelve to nine months in advance. If your wedding is much sooner then please don’t hesitate to contact us. If your date is open and available we will book it (even if its next week).

WHAT DO YOU REQUIRE TO BOOK MY DATE? WILL YOU HOLD/PENCIL MY DATE IN FIRST?

A signed photography agreement (that we provide), along with a 50% non-refundable deposit. We will not hold your date without a contract and retainer since that would requiring turning away other potential clients.

OK, I THINK I MIGHT WANT TO BOOK YOU. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Awesome! Send us email and let us know you’re interested in booking and when your wedding date is. We want to meet you and you probably want to meet us to see if we are a good fit for each other. We can meet either by video call or a chat on the phone. You’ll answer some fun questions for us, and we’ll answer any of your questions as well as go over pricing and details. You can take some time and get back with us after our meeting if you'd like to book, or let us know during the meeting. It’s that simple!

HOW MANY IMAGES WILL I RECEIVE FROM MY WEDDING?

Typically between 600 to 800. This varies on the amount of time you have booked us for.

WILL YOU MEET WITH ME BEFORE THE WEDDING DAY? WHAT INFORMATION DO YOU NEED BEFORE THE WEDDING DAY?

Yes. We will meet (or face time if you are long distance) a few months before your wedding date to discuss your wedding day schedule and photography locations. I will provide you with a final consultation questionnaire to answer.

DO YOU TRAVEL OUTSIDE THE SOUTH FLORIDA AREA? IF SO, WHAT ARE YOUR TRAVEL FEES?

Yes, we love to travel! We charge a flat rate of $700 for anywhere in the continental US and give a custom quote for overseas. If your location is  farther then a two hour  driving distance from Nashville,Tn then we review it on a case by case basis.

HOW LONG DO YOU TAKE TO GET PHOTOS TO ME AFTER THE WEDDING? IN WHAT FORM DO I RECEIVE THEM?

You will receive your wedding photos no later then six weeks after your weddings (as stated in our contract) via digital download, which we will send you a link to once they are ready.

DO YOU EDIT ALL THE IMAGES? DOES THIS INCLUDE COLOR CORRECTION?

Absolutely! EVERY single image you receive has been personally edited and color corrected. We are not a fan of batch processing without giving each image individual attention.

WILL I HAVE A PRINT RELEASE? DO I OWN THE COPYRIGHT TO MY PHOTOS?

With your digital download you can share and print your images freely. We would be happy to provide you with a print release if you request it. We as the photographers always retain the copyright, which means you cannot sell your photos on to third parties, and we are free to use the images we have taken in our portfolio or for advertising.

WILL OUR PHOTOS BE HIGH RESOLUTION FILES?

Yes. You should not have any problem printing them in large sizes. If you plan to print an image larger then a 16x20 then let us know before your wedding so we can shoot in a special format.

IS IT OK IF FRIENDS AND FAMILY TAKE PHOTOS WHILE YOU’RE TAKING PHOTOS?

Of course! We do ask that they wait until we have snapped the first few family photos so everyone’s eye’s our focused on our main camera. For our portrait session we prefer to be alone with the bride and groom so that they can feel relaxed without the pressure of being watched. We STRONGLY encourage your officiant to make an announcement at the beginning of your ceremony for people to not take photos with their smartphones as they can tend to lean out in the aisle and block our shot of you coming down the aisle. Plus it allows your guests to be fully immersed in the moment, leaving the work of capturing the moment to us for everyone to enjoy later.

IF MY WEDDING RUNS OVERTIME WILL YOU STAY? IS THERE A FEE?

Yes we will stay. Our overtime fee is $250 an hour and we will bill you after the wedding before the final photos are sent. We will never stay unless we have your approval first.

HOW MUCH TIME DO YOU NEED ON THE WEDDING DAY TO PHOTOGRAPH FAMILY, BRIDAL PARTY, COUPLE PORTRAITS?

We prefer to have at least 45 minutes alone with the bride and groom if possible and we prefer to split that time up between a first look (If you choose to do that), after ceremony portraits, and sunset portraits. Depending on how big your family is, usually half an hour suffices just fine. The wedding party photos can vary anywhere from thirty minutes to an hour. Our ideal is to have as much time as possible but if things run late we will always get the job done with a smile and relaxed attitude. But keep in mind, the more limited in time we are, the less opportunity we have to be extra creative and naturally, you will receive less images.

I LOVE THOSE SUNSET PHOTOS YOU DO. HOW DO YOU FIT THAT IN?

Thank you! We love them as well. We try to steal you away from the reception for about 10 minutes during that perfect sunset light to get those photos. This varies depending on when your ceremony is and what time the sun is setting. If at all possible we will try and schedule that in! They usually end up being the favorite portrait images.

DO YOU RECOMMEND A FIRST LOOK?

YES! It is a wonderful opportunity for you to see each other privately before the ceremony in an intimate setting where you can be relaxed and laugh a bit, or cry a bit…whatever you feel like! It also gives us the opportunity to get most of your photos done before the wedding, creating a significantly less stressful experience and giving you more time at your reception.

DO YOU COME TO THE REHEARSAL?

Yes, we do offer rehearsal dinner coverage for an additional fee. Contact us for details

DO YOU DO ENGAGEMENT SESSIONS?

Yes! Some of our wedding selections include it but we also offer it separately.

WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS ON MY WEDDING DAY?

Totally ok! They say it’s a sign of blessing if it does rain…not sure if it is true but we’ll take it! I have umbrellas for the bride and groom so we can still have a blast during your photos outdoors. If it is pouring rain then we can find somewhere inside to do photos. We will have a back up plan already talked over so no last minute stressing is required.

WHAT IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO MAKE IT TO THE WEDDING DUE TO ILLNESS OR SOME OTHER UNKNOWN FACTOR?

In the RARE case that one (or both) of us were unable to come due to a disaster, or debilitating illness, we would give it our top effort to call on our supportive photography community of friends to take one (or both) of our places and deliver a product and experience that would be on par to what you would receive from both of us.

Engagement

That sweet season of almost married.

WHAT IS YOUR STYLE OF PHOTOGRAPHY FOR AN ENGAGEMENT SESSION?

We are primarily natural light photographers, loving soft color palettes, and sentimental romantic settings for our portraits. Our photos are processed to emulate a classic film photography look, which is very timeless looking. We love relaxed and casually posed images that have that “magical moment” feel to them. Our sessions are spent talking and laughing, with a bit of posing and directing to get those natural and beautiful images.

DO YOU EDIT EACH PHOTO?

Absolutely! EVERY single image you receive has been personally edited and color corrected. We are not a fan of batch processing without giving each image individual attention.

HOW MUCH IS AN ENGAGEMENT SESSION?

Our engagement sessions are $400 for an hour and a half time slot at a location of your choice.

HOW LONG DO YOU TAKE TO GET PHOTOS TO ME AFTER THE SESSION? IN WHAT FORM DO I RECEIVE THEM?

You will receive your engagement photos no later then four weeks after your session  (as stated in our contract) via digital download, which we will send you a link to once they are ready. We are open to negotiating a sooner date if you need them for save the dates as soon as possible.

WHAT IF IT RAINS ON OUR SESSION DAY?

Typically we will reschedule, unless you like the idea of having a more moody and rainy look. Rain and clouds can make for some of the most amazing photos due to the soft lighting look! But if its torrential downpour then we will definitely reschedule. We will keep a close eye on the weather and make the call to reschedule that morning. We do not reschedule if the sky is just overcast.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR (OR NOT WEAR)?

First off, whatever makes you feel amazing. Really, it’s that simple. BUT if you feel amazing in most things then here are some pointers that we personally think work well in photos. Pick colors that go well with your skin tone and make your eye color pop. Simplicity is always a winner! Textures, like lace or knit, photograph really well. Dresses are fun for women because we can get a little spinning motion with the skirt. I would recommend staying away from bright white, as it tend to be more challenging photographing. If you love that white look then try selecting a cream or a softer white which is often more flattering on the skin tone.

I WANT TO PRINT OUT MY PHOTOS PROFESSIONALLY. DO YOU HAVE ANY RECOMMENDATIONS OR CAN I PRINT THROUGH YOU?

Yes. You can totally print through us for professional quality prints. You can order those prints from your online download gallery.

HOW FAR IN ADVANCE SHOULD I SCHEDULE?

The further the better if you are set on a particular date. Typically most people schedule two to four months out. If we are available we would be happy to accommodate you sooner.

WHAT DO YOU REQUIRE TO BOOK MY DATE? WILL YOU HOLD/PENCIL MY DATE IN FIRST?

A signed photography agreement (that we provide), along with your full payment on the day of your session.

DO YOU PICK THE LOCATION OR DO I?

We love for you to pick a place that is sentimental to you as a couple! Do you have a park that you love? Or a coffee shop? That favorite restaurant where you had your first date? Where he proposed? Places like this make a great spot for photos! We can always suggest a location based on optimal photographing amazingness (basically places that will look really cool in photos) if you don't love the look of any of your sentimental places.

DO YOU DO POSED TRADITIONAL PHOTOS OR MORE CANDIDS?

We do a bit of both. Posed photos are always classic and sure to be beautiful. We make sure to pose you very naturally so you feel comfortable. Then from that pose we work into more candid moments intermixed with posed. It all flows very naturally and we do not leave you feeling awkward and not knowing what to do!

DO YOU DO THEMED PHOTO SHOOTS?

Yes and no. Our goal is to have your photo session be uniquely you as a couple. If that involves more of a theme type shoot then we would be thrilled to run with that idea! If that is the case then we will plan out the details of where and you are welcome to provide props that you want to use. If we have any props that fit our theme then we’ll bring them along as well. But as a standard we do not plan out a themed shoot for each session unless you request it. We focus more on natural locations that are sentimental to you or great for photographing in because of the  natural beauty.

CAN I HAVE AN OUTFIT CHANGE?

Yes, that's totally up to you!

WHAT TIME AND DAYS DO YOU USUALLY DO ENGAGEMENT SESSIONS?

Evening time, an hour and a half before sunset is when we get that gorgeous photo light…and photo magic is all about the light! We schedule engagement sessions on weekday evenings and occasionally Friday or Saturday evenings. Sundays are unavailable.

LIFE SESSIONS

Family and personal portrait answers.

WHAT DOES A "LIFE SESSION" MEAN?

Instead of dragging you or the kids to a studio we come to your home or a beautiful location of your choice. In a natural environment the results are much more authentic as we photograph you being…well, you!

WHAT IS YOUR STYLE OF PHOTOGRAPHY FOR A LIFE SESSION?

We are primarily natural light photographers, loving soft color palettes, and dreamy even lighting. Our photos are processed to emulate a classic film photography look, which is ethereal and soft. We love relaxed and casually posed images that have that a “magical moment” feel to them. Our sessions are spent relaxing and laughing, running after the kids with the camera in tow, photographing a fun activity, or lounging in your home with you while crafting portraits in your natural environment.

DO YOU PICK THE LOCATION OR DO I?

We mainly do two types of life sessions.

+ For families we come to your home where we will photograph more of a snippet of a day in your life. So that can look like all the kids piling up in your bed in their favorite jammies for a pillow fight or book reading time. Pulling out of oven mits and measuring spoons for a baking session in the kitchen with mom or an outdoor game of catch with dad. Lounging in the living room on your couch snuggling. Dress up session with your daughters Rocking your newborn baby in their nursery. The list of endless creative ideas goes on and on!
The options are similar for couples. Sitting at your breakfast table with coffee and the paper. Or cooking in your kitchen while enjoying some wine and cheese. We love activity based mixed in with more posed portraits to give you variety. So dream away and pick an activity that is uniquely you!

+ Our other popular option is to meet you at an outdoor location like a park, or a Nashville landmark for creative portraits. These are not as much activity based but more heavily focused on posed portraits. We love to keep the sessions fun and interesting with plenty of laughing and running around (if kids are involved) to capture that relaxed natural feel.

+Or we can meet you at a special location for a more activity based shoot. Like an ice cream shop, the farmers market on a Saturday morning, your favorite coffee shop, etc.

BEFORE I CALL OR EMAIL YOU TO SCHEDULE A SESSION, WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Decide what type of shoot you are looking for. Do you want a collection of candid moments display in an album on your coffee table? Or are you wanting to have a large canvas of your family in a natural setting displayed on your wall? Or perhaps a bit of both. Ask the kids what they would enjoy doing (they typically have great ideas actually!) and brainstorm some ideas before you give us a call and then we’ll join you in giving ideas and planning your session.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE MY HOME BEFORE YOU ARRIVE?

Have everything picked up and as clutter free as possible. Open up all your blinds and curtains to let in the natural light. When I arrive I will survey each room to evaluate the natural light and I might ask your permission to rearrange slightly. Depending on weather and what is available we will use inside your home and outside so don’t forget to have the grass cut and lawn fairly clutter free.

For older babies and children go for something classic and timeless that you love!

For newborns I prefer to photograph them mostly naked and swaddled tightly. Swaddle blankets with interesting patterns, soft color palettes, and subtle prints photograph wonderful.

DO YOU USE PROPS FOR BABIES?

I will typically bring a basket for newborns. I recommend you having on hand some blankets that are soft and fuzzy for backdrops to add to the options I bring since you know your home and swaddle blanket colors as well as their outfits.

For props for children I prefer to use whatever you have on hand around your home to keep the photos as authentic and as natural as possible.

WHAT SHOULD I DO WHILE YOU’RE TAKING MY CHILD’S PHOTOGRAPH?

Have fun with your kids! We want our photo sessions to be something celebrated that the kids look forward to. Not a time where they are scared or stressed. And if you’re stressed about them smiling or behaving then they tend to act out all the more. ☺ So take a deep breath and determine to really engage with your children in a lighthearted manner to help them relax. If a posed setting isn’t working then we’ll move on and try something different and revisit it later in the shoot. If need be I’ll put my camera down and help you read a book or play a game so they can get more comfortable around me. The key is to try not to stress.

I also love it when parents are actively behind me helping make their children laugh or look at the camera during our session, especially with babies and toddlers!er.

HOW LONG DO YOU TAKE TO GET PHOTOS TO ME AFTER THE SESSION? IN WHAT FORM DO I RECEIVE THEM?

You will receive your life session photos no later then 4 weeks after your session (as stated in our contract) via digital download.

WILL I HAVE A PRINT RELEASE? DO I OWN THE COPYRIGHT TO MY PHOTOS?

With a digital download you can share and print your images freely. We would be happy to provide you with a print release if you request it. We as the photographers always retain the copyright, which means you cannot sell your photos on to third parties, and we are free to use the images we have taken in our portfolio or for advertising.

CHRISTMAS OR IS COMING UP, WILL YOU HAVE A THEMED BACKDROP SET UP FOR MY CHILD'S PHOTOS?

In keeping with our style of authentic images we do not offer generic holiday backdrops and props. What we would love to do is come to your home during Christmas time and photograph you decorating your tree or making Christmas cookies. Or we would love to head to a park around Easter time with the kids in their Easter outfits. We try our best to keep each photo shoot unique and not manufactured looking, crafting images that you will treasure as truly yours for years to come.

HOW MUCH ARE LIFE SESSIONS?

Our life sessions are $350 for an hour time slot.

I WANT TO PRINT OUT MY PHOTOS PROFESSIONALLY. CAN I PRINT THROUGH YOU?

Yes. You can totally print through us for professional quality prints. You can order those images via your online gallery.
